Developers often use REST or GraphQL APIs on top of SQL databases to build low-latency, data-driven applications (e.g. to create dashboards to monitor and debug applications). Louis Poinsignon, a network software engineer at Cloudflare, released edge-sql, a proof of concept for “serverless SQLite.” edge-sql enables arbitrary SQLite queries to execute on an immutable external dataset through a serverless edge worker (embedding SQLite using Cloudflare Workers and WASM). This approach could be used to quickly filter, sort, or aggregate data by leveraging the CDN edge.
