In the past year, several companies have released both OSS and commercial solutions designed to address challenges ranging from data discovery to data visualization to privacy. Many of these tools rely on metadata and data lineage; however, if they use disparate representations, they may not be compatible. To address this problem, Datakin, with support from several other OSS developers, has released OpenLineage, an open standard for data lineage that can help ensure that metadata and lineage produced by various tools and platforms is compatible and consistent. OpenLineage defines a generic model of a run, job, and dataset entities, which can be enriched by defining specific facets.
