While data practitioners continue to debate if SQL or Python is the lingua franca of their field, many believe that each language plays an important role in analysis and model development. Nonetheless, using Python when interacting with SQL databases remains very tedious. To make it easy to use Python code with classes and instances that represent tables and rows, Sebastian Ramirez (the creator of FastAPI) has released SQLModel. SQLModel, which is optimized for developer ergonomics, is based on standard Python type annotations and is implemented as a thin layer on top of Pydantic and SQLAlchemy.
