As data and analytics engineering teams grow and the market for data tools and platforms expands, many data practitioners are forming hypotheses about the future of the data warehouse. In this post, Mikkel Dengsøe predicts that the data warehouse, which today supports BI and dashboarding use cases, will also support sales, marketing, finance, and other workflows and a wide range of internal tools. He notes that adoption of product-led growth strategies and the need for highly accurate data to support regulatory reporting may accelerate this transition. Dengsøe concludes by outlining some needs that must be addressed ( teams need to adopt software engineering practices and standards) before this transition can occur.
