Lisha Li

Advisor

Lisha is an advisor at Amplify Partners. She is the founder of a stealth AI startup based in San Francisco.  In that capacity, she continues to be deeply involved in the machine intelligence community and interacts with and advises early-stage startups.

Lisha completed her PhD at UC Berkeley focusing on deep learning and probability applied to the problem of clustering in graphs. She worked with Prof. David Aldous and Prof. Joan Bruna and was supported by the prestigious NSERC CGS fellowship. While at Berkeley she also did statistical consulting, advising on methods and analysis for experimentation and interpretation, and interned as a data scientist at Pinterest and Stitch Fix. She was the lecturer of discrete mathematics, as well as the graduate instructor for probability and statistics and intro CS theory. Prior to that, she earned her Master of Science in Mathematics at the University of Toronto, with Highest Distinction advised by Prof. Balazs Szegedy in the area of Graph Limits.

Lisha has been in the Bay Area for the past six years, but originally hails from Toronto Canada, living there from age six. She was born in Chengdu China. Although a huge fan of the eternal California summer, she is nonetheless nostalgic for Timmy’s, ketchup chips and the gothic grays of the University of Toronto campus where she spent an idyllic four years majoring in pure math and philosophy. Other things she has dabbled in include acting (unionized in Canada) and dance (was an artist with a modern dance company). A fun turn of events one summer visiting Paris as a research mathematician, Lisha found herself the subject of the short films “A Portrait of a Mathematician lady” and “Sizes of Infinity” by filmmaker Olivier Peyon that ties some of these eclectic interests.
