Ballista is a distributed compute platform implemented in Rust with Apache Arrow as the memory model. Ballista will extend DataFusion, Arrow’s in-memory query engine, with several components such as a distributed query planner/scheduler and Kubernetes support. In this blogpost, Andy Grove (the creator of Ballista) describes his recent efforts to start the Rust implementation of Ballista from scratch in anticipation of the release of DataFusion 3.0.0.
