Although logs are critical to operate and debug software systems, writing logging statements can be tedious and error-prone. As such, some have proposed initiatives to automatically determine the quantity, location, and description of log statements (i.e. to predict which code snippets need logs and automate the logging process). Here, Sina Gholamian proposes using source code clones (similar code snippets) and DNN-based language models to automate log location and description prediction. He evaluates this approach on 7 OSS Java systems and finds that it can provide more accurate clone-based log statement suggestions.
