Earlier this year Elastic transitioned Elasticsearch and Kibana from the Apache 2.0 license to the server Side Public License and Elastic License. In response, Amazon (with support from Red Hat, SAP, Capital One, and Logz.io) has announced the release of OpenSearch, a community-driven OSS fork of Elasticsearch and Kibana. Amazon has removed Elastic commercial licensed features, code, and branding from OpenSearch, which is under the Apache 2.0 license. They are inviting contributions from community members, including by eliminating Contributor License Agreements.
