Although schema validity issues can cripple data science and analytics projects, technical leadership is often unwilling to insist that developers statically type all events lest it impact their agility. To address the data pipeline integrity issues that arise from this context, OS Labs has released Turnstyl. Turnstyl is an NPM package that works with Kafka to ensure that producer events and events that arrive in the data warehouse (BigQuery) have matching schema. Turnstyl will send alerts to the console when mismatches occur so that data teams can debug data pipelines quickly and efficiently and log these discrepancies. The OS Labs team plans to add support for other message brokers and CDW.
